Melrose Place?

Historically i haven’t been too much of a fan of "The Arch" but i have had the pleasure of having to endure 2 leisurely business lunches there in the last few days.

Wow! Where have these people been hiding? Thank you summer! Belters everywhere with more supercars than car guards....nice equation that. Its making Sandton seem a little juvenile to say the least.

One thing i did notice: Absolutely no grass on the square, other than what was being smoked behind the Meat Co by some "security" people. Im not a tree hugger or anything but you can only use so much concrete!

That said; it a awesome place to watch the world slide past while enjoying a good graze and a sneaky beverage, all we need now is a sea view…..(insert gratuitous picture here)

I don't like the Arch enough to warrant going there once a month. I probably pop in every couple of months. It's not bad, less the grass issue, which I agree with you on. Look, it's not Montecasino so that's all that counts. Nothing can be worse than Monte 'Oh My God Too Much Tuscan' Casino. A friend and I were at the Arch the other night, and with all the Christmas lights, the belters (in male form that is ;), and a solid look at the architecture, its not a bad place at all.

But if you're not in the mood for pretentiousness, its not the place to go. I love the Melrose Arch hotel deck, if you don't mind paying a small fucking fortune for a drink. Worth it if you want to splash out.

If you are not in the mood for pretentiousness Jhb is not the place to go! Monte sucks, i hate the place (I lost big tom there a few years back!)i would rather chew dirt than spend my free time in a grown up version of Mini Town.

I haven’t been to the Melrose Arch Hotel but I have heard some nasty stories about the prices.

Montecasino is my idea of Hell - so I'm glad you agree with me there. A friend of mine works for SA Tourism, and she said that it's the most visited tourist place in Gauteng. What on Earth drives people to go there?? Dining al fresco below the painted blue ceiling? Hate it, hate it.

Yip the prices of a beer at the Arch hotel range from about R20 to R30 - so as long as you don't plan to smash 20 beers in your face there, you should be fine. It's worth it though: you sit in a heated pool, which has tables in it. Just take your shoes off, roll up your pants and chill. Nice for a splurge I suppose.
